It is time, once again, for the annual Western PA Gup Clinic hosted by the WTSDA schools in the Pittsburgh area. These schools work hard every year to offer an outstanding day of training for WTSDA students of every age and every rank. This year the clinic will be held on Saturday, July 11th at the Rose E. Schneider Family YMCA in Cranberry Twp, Pennsylvania. This is a great opportunity for students to train with WTSDA members outside of their school, learn from local Masters and senior ranking black belts, gain new perspectives on TSD basics and explore new areas of martial arts. This awesome day of training is followed up with a group picnic at a local park. This is a great opportunity to relax with other students and celebrate the hard day of work you just completed. All family members are invited to attend the picnic as well. Paperwork for this event is available here. Please make sure that you fill the paperwork out completely and turn it in to one of your instructors by MOnday, July 6th.
The CTSDA Summer Session begins on Monday, June 8, 2009 and we are looking forward to an exciting summer of classes and regional training events! Testing will take place on Saturday, May 2, 2009. Here’s all the information you will need for the big day:
When/Where/Directions
Youth Testing will begin promptly at 12:30PM. We suggest students arrive no later than 12:00 in order to walk from the garage, change, fill out any lingering paperwork and get used to the training room. By 12:20, we will begin warming up the children for the test.
Adult Testing will begin promptly at 1:30 PM. We suggest students arrive no later than 1:00 in order to walk from the garage, change, fill out any lingering paperwork and get used to the training room.
The testing will take place at The Ohio State University RPAC center, room A200. The easiest place to park is in the Neil Avenue Parking Garage for $3.00. Here are directions showing how to get to the Neil Ave. Garage from the Y.
Students from Buckeye Tang Soo Do will be at the different exits, pointing you in the right direction.
What do I need to know?
All students are responsible for knowing the material on their rank sheet. Each section is graded on a percentage basis. Students may be asked to think outside of the box and apply their knowledge in a new and challenging way. Show good spirit and do your best!
What do I need to bring?
All students should bring their uniform and Gup manual. Children will not spar at this exam, but adults should bring their mouthpiece, and any additional protective gear they wish to use.
How Much does it Cost?
The cost for testing is $25.00 and it is due by the day of the test. Please see me if you need to make alternate arrangements.
Last thing…
RELAX! If this is your first testing, just be ready to do your best and show your best spirit. You aren’t expected to know everything or do everything perfectly. All of the graders started just like you, and they remember their first test very well. Make sure you are well hydrated and have a good dinner the night before!
